Backlit LED Bathroom Mirrors

A backlit mirror features LEDs behind the glass that cast a soft halo around the ... mirror's edge. The effect is warmer and more atmospheric than that of front-facing light, making backlit mirrors a popular choice in bathrooms where ambience matters as much as function. Choose from backlit bathroom mirrors across rectangular, round and pill-shaped designs.

What is a backlit bathroom mirror?

A backlit mirror, sometimes called a mirror with backlight, has its LED strip mounted behind the glass panel rather than in front of it. Light escapes around the perimeter of the mirror, creating a diffused glow against the wall rather than a direct beam into the room. This gives a softer, more layered lighting effect than a front-lit mirror.

It's a different kind of light to work with. Backlit mirrors are excellent for creating atmosphere and making a bathroom feel considered and well-finished. They work well as a secondary light source alongside ceiling lighting, or as the main mirror light in a bathroom that leans towards calm and warmth rather than bright functionality.

How is a backlit mirror different from a front-lit mirror?

The practical difference comes down to where the light falls. A front-lit mirror shines light directly onto your face, which gives strong, even illumination for tasks like applying makeup or shaving. A backlit mirror casts light outward from behind the glass, illuminating the surrounding wall and creating a halo effect rather than direct task lighting.

Many people choose based on how they use their bathroom. If bright, clear task lighting is the priority, a front-lit illuminated mirror is the more practical choice. If ambience and a softer finish matter more, or if you already have good ceiling lighting and want the mirror to enhance the mood rather than do all the work, a backlit mirror is worth considering. What backlit bathroom mirror sizes are available?

Our backlit mirrors run from 400mm x 600mm at the compact end through to 1200mm x 600mm for wide-format walls. Here's a breakdown:

      • 400mm x 600mm backlit mirrors suit smaller bathrooms, cloakrooms or anywhere the wall space above the basin is limited.

      • 500mm x 700mm backlit mirrors are the most versatile size and works above a standard single basin in most bathroom sizes.

      • 500mm x 800mm backlit mirrors give a bit more height for the same width, a good option if you want a taller mirror on a narrower wall.

      • 600mm x 800mm backlit mirrors are the largest rectangular size in the range, suiting larger family bathrooms or double basins where the mirror needs more presence on the wall.

      • 1200mm x 600mm backlit mirrors are the widest option; they span a full double-basin wall and make a significant statement suited to larger bathrooms or open-plan wet rooms.

      • 600mm round backlit mirrors options are suited to standard family bathrooms where a circular mirror would sit above a single basin.

What features do backlit mirrors come with?

Every mirror in this collection is dimmable and colour-adjustable, letting you switch between warm white and cool white and find the right brightness for the time of day or the task at hand. All are controlled via a touch sensor and are IP44 rated for safe bathroom use. Most of our models also include a demister pad to keep the glass clear in steamy bathrooms.

What backlit mirror shape should I choose?

We stock backlit mirrors in four shapes, each suited to different bathroom layouts and aesthetics.

      • Backlit rectangular bathroom mirrors suit most bathroom layouts and give a clean, structured look on the wall. Our rectangular options are available in four sizes and come in a fully frameless finish.

      • Backlit round bathroom mirrors work particularly well in bathrooms with a lot of straight lines, where a circular shape adds contrast and visual interest. These are available as 600mm round backlit mirrors and come in black and brass finishes.

      • Backlit oval and pill-shaped mirrors are tall and narrow with rounded ends, giving you more vertical mirror surface without taking up much horizontal wall space. These backlit mirrors are available in black and brass.

      • The Savannah Pebble is an irregular organic shape and is softer and more sculptural than a standard oval or pill. It's a single size at 550mm x 800mm and suits bathrooms with a more natural or spa-influenced aesthetic.

What backlit mirror finish will match my bathroom?

All backlit mirrors in this range are either frameless or finished in black or brass, reflecting the more design-led nature of the category. Choose the one that matches your other furniture finishes:

      • Frameless backlit mirrors suit most contemporary bathrooms and let the backlight effect do the visual work without a frame drawing attention.

      • Black backlit mirror finishes work well in monochrome schemes, industrial-style bathrooms or any space where darker hardware features.

      • Brass backlit mirrors add warmth and suit bathrooms with natural stone, warm-toned tiles or other warm metal fixtures.
